Tips For The Big Bend

(Marfa Chamber Of Commerce)
When
driving through West Texas, there is one rule of thumb: BE PREPARED.
Long distances, winding roads and inclement weather can put the
traveler in uncomfortable and sometimes difficult situations. A
few travel tips for the uninitiated might include:
-
Have
extra water available.
-
Be
sure your spare tire is in good repair.
-
Have
a small tool kit and first aid kit.
-
Don't
let your gas tank get too low, there can be long distances between
gas stations.
-
A
cell phone is a good idea, however be aware that service can be
spotty.
-
Always
let someone know where you are going.
For
health and safety concerns when walking, hiking or extended exposure
to the elements:
-
Have
a wide brim hat for protection against West Texas sunshine.
-
Bring
water, sunscreen and lip moisturizer.
-
Be
aware of your surroundings: snakes, mountain lions and various
other animals are not necessarily friendly.
-
Make
sure you have ample prescription drugs.
-
Do
not cross into private property without permission.
